The Chair's charity this year is Amadudu Women's Refuge.

Amadudu Women’s Refuge provides support and accommodation for women and children escaping domestic violence.

Amadudu Women’s Refuge was opened in 1990. The refuge provides temporary accommodation for up to six families and is based within a neighbourhood that has a large diverse community. The project is unique in identifying and addressing the varying needs of a range of cultures.

The scheme allows for independent living and provides support and signposting to a range of agencies for the resident families. The staff provide a link between the housing agencies and the families, assisting the women and their families to access permanent accommodation.

As well as accommodation Amadudu also provide advocacy and support services, a crèche facility and a volunteer programme which uses suitably police-checked volunteers from the local community to supplement the work of the child services

The services are funded in the main by Liverpool City Council, however this grant only meets the cost of providing a basic service. All additional services have to be fundraised for separately. The staff team work all year to secure funding for the additional child services.
